In establishing the requirement for an Occupational Health and Safety Program, Section 28(2) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that the Program include:

(g) a system for the prompt investigation of hazardous occurrences to determine their causes and the actions needed to prevent recurrences.

In the event of workplace violence, Nova Scotia’s “Violence in the Workplace Regulations[1]”, in particular Sections 12-14, specify the duty to report, document and investigate incidents of violence.  In addition, there are requirements to prevent re-occurrence and appropriate debriefing with employees exposed to or affected by workplace violence.
