SAFETY FOR SUPERVISORS AND MANAGERS
Safety for Supervisors and Managers (SSM) Certificate
A certificate program for Supervisors and Managers, developed by AWARE-NS. The S.A.F.E.R Leadership model; developed by Dr. Kevin Kelloway is the foundational element.
The program objective is to integrate leadership skills and the practical application of the Safety Management System (SMS). Upon completion, participants will understand their role, responsibility and accountability for health and safety. It provides the tools and resources in developing a proactive Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), and supports leadership values that positively impact safe work culture. Classroom training is made up of the following 2 days, covering 7 courses:
Day 1 (full day) S.A.F.E.R. Leadership

Covers the elements of the S.A.F.E.R. ‘how-to’ model and system approach for Transformational Safety Leadership:
- S – Speaking of safety
- A – Acting safely at work
- F – Focusing on maintaining safety standards

- R – Recognizing individuals who adhere to safety
- Supervisor and Manager Roles & Responsibilities
- Changing the Culture
- Contractor Safety
- Stay at Work/Return to Work

- Incident Investigation& Root Cause Analysis
- Hazard Management
- Workplace Inspections
