SAFE LIFT AND TRANSFER FOR LONG TERM CARE

SAFE LIFT AND TRANSFER FOR LONG TERM CARE

To support the Soteria Provincial initiative to address Musculoskeletal Injuries, a best practice comprehensive Safe Resident Handling Program has been developed to specifically support Long Term Care homes.

Essentially the elements were developed in a train-the-trainer format and have been offered at workshops delivered through the WCB.

The purpose of the program is to provide the program elements and hands-on practical training to develop and implement a “best practice” Safe Resident Handling Program. Through theory, discussions and examples, team members will attain the confidence, knowledge and skills to assess residents to identify the most appropriate means to lift, transfer and reposition every resident within the organization.

The program includes a series of discussions and activities on the following topics: Musculoskeletal Injuries (MSIs); Body Mechanics; Safe Lift, Transfer and Repositioning Program (How to establishing a Team, Developing the Policy / Procedures, Learning the transfers and lifts, Other tips, Training and Education).
